Construction sites

The focus is on unique green solutions which encourage collaboration with the community and the buildings.  Engagement and collaboration includes ideas such as a re-store for existing plants on a site, moved to a re-store nursery, and able to be re-used on other sites.  Other ideas include a re-store for construction materials and other elements of the building which can be re-purposed and for materials left after the construction, local material and supplies, community collaborators and artists, green constructions practices such as planted construction fences.

With abandoned buildings, there is an opportunity to put community artwork in the empty store fronts and windows throughout a building.  Use of community designers and artists to make the site a visual amenity with changing designs creates an space which the community can enjoy through the temporary state.  Use of community designers improve long term engagement and success.

Questions to ask on a site of this includes sources of unique grey water sources, ADA requirements for the site and designs for success of diverse culture.  Also looking at access to storm water, distance from drains, improvements to surrounding site conditions, considerations of culture, community values and community conditions are important to explore.

With new construction, contaminants on site from previous use and materials, storage of site materials during construction are looked at.  As well as depth to ground water, quality of the soil, the effects of the new materials and construction on the surrounding site.

Warehouses, plants

Warehouses and plants are unique- in that they must function for the business, whether the production is furniture or Siracha.  Plants which have people using the site for production can be improved with green designs and practices which enhance the employees quality of life and improve air quality.  Additionally there can be a long term improvement in retention of employees and their productivity due to improved site conditions.

With designs which include improved air circulation thru interior and exterior parks, as well as daylight bulbs for eye strain and plant life, and plants chosen to improve air contaminants specific to the site conditions.

Design solutions for remediation of warehouse conditions are through interior and exterior parks and greening designs, air circulation improvement, plants for car exhaust and other contaminants in warehouse conditions, choosing designs for contaminants based on industry, plastics and other materials in warehouse contaminants for air quality.
